In Traditional Chinese Medicine, a balanced diet is one which
includes all 5 tastes - hot, sour, bitter, sweet, and salty. Foods
and herbs that have a particular taste also have particular healing
properties. Understanding the intricacies of balancing Yin Yang,
5 flavors, Temperatures, Energetics of Food, and which Organs they
act on can be very complex. But you can take the basic knowledge
and make it work for you to maintain an optimum weight, to increase
your energy, and to stay healthy.
Most diets are based on this three-category structure:
1. Diets that remove sugar and promote only protein
2. Diets that remove or lower fat intake
3. Diets that measure a particular ratio of each category
In this recipe book we have provided the basic information on
the Energetics of Food. For each recipe we introduce you to cooking
with the 5 flavors in order that you may achieve your optimal health
through fresh, pleasurable, nutritiously varied foods.
These recipes DO NOT HAVE sugar, chemical
sugar-substitutes, or any foods that turn to sugar in the body
(grains, starches, large & juicy
fruits, milk, and starchy veggies). The only sweetener we use is
stevia - an herb from South America that is 10x sweeter than sugar
and is imported to the US as a supplement (so it can usually be
found in the vitamins, potions, herbs and homeopathics section
of a grocery store, or in a vitamin shop).
Note: In the dessert section, our chef did have to add 1/4 to
1/2 cup of oat flour to a couple of recipes in order to make them
amazing and glorious to eat.
Because wheat turns to sugar in the body, these recipes are WHEAT
FREE (and by extension gluten-free) recipes as well. Wheat is a
common allergen, our patient's health improves and they have better
results with treatments for pain, insomnia, headaches, and other
imbalances when they avoid this particular grain. So our chef (allergic
to wheat herself), put in extensive effort to combine protein flours
(nut and seed) and our very clean, very pure, whey isolate powder.
We DO NOT USE MILK in any of the recipes because milk (lactose)
turns to sugar in the body. Instead we use cream-the fat of the
milk-your body uses oils/fats to lubricate your joints and to allow
lipid soluble (fat soluble) nutrients to pass the blood brain barrier
in order to nourish your brain.
And finally having passed the rigorous taste-tests of our patients,
