Do you have an EAT MORE Bias?

Do you have an EAT MORE Bias?
Are your myths preventing you from successful weight loss?

Are your myths preventing you from successful weight loss?

Acupuncture for weight loss is extremely effective and for good reasons.  The way energy moves through our bodies, to affect our brains, results in how much we weigh.  It’s not unlike Einstein’s equation: E = mc2.  Energy IS matter. In other words, thinking energy can be weighed.  So, correcting our ideas, works for weight loss.

This  obesity study from the University of Alabama at Birmingham has more than one GRAND IDEA.

As you read along, you are hit with words that form ideas that you have probably never read in an article on obesity.

#1 GRAND IDEA is their discovery of misinformation, disinformation and flat-out lies we believe about weight loss.  The authors of the study were able to identify, categorize and then create a coherent list for us of 10 misconceptions about weight loss.

If you read through them, thoughtfully, you will find several of your own opinions represented.

I consider such a list a GRAND IDEA because if you’re not too hooked on your own opinions, and you find your opinions on the list, it will help you or someone you advise, to successfully lose weight and get healthier by merely changing an opinion.

#2 GRAND IDEA could be in every article on obesity,  and probably be discussed extensively.

Here it is: “Then there is the phenomenon of “confirmation bias,” where we tend to systematically seek out only sources of information that confirm our opinions.”  (bold and italics mine)

The authors of the study ask what is behind a belief, any belief, including beliefs about being overweight, that these beliefs can be identified and then further identified as false, simply not true, don’t make any sense, and have been proven to be not true, yet still believed?

Luckily, they don’t leave us hanging.  The answer is confirmation bias.

And, by the way, I found it awesome reading to see the Five Pillars of UAB’s mission.

This might be one research study overview that you read in its entirety.  You’ll get the 10 myths; you’ll get information on “confirmation bias”; and stick with it to the end so you can read the lofty and very respectable Five Pillars of UAB’s mission.

P.S. I plan to examine some of my strongly held beliefs especially in areas where I fail miserably, to see if confirmation bias is at work. Let me know if you want to join me–if you share your discoveries, I’ll share mine!
