Thai Massage for Hip Replacement Surgery

Wes came to the clinic with a specific goal in mind.  At 40 years old he needed a double hip replacement and he needed help getting in shape for the surgeries.  He was tired of the five years of pain and pain medication;  the pain was restricting his life abilities and affecting his moods. For different reasons, each treatment at HBC held the promise of successful surgery and full recovery. Acupuncture was perfect for moving blood through the damaged joints to make sure they were as healthy as possible; herbal formulas assisted Wes in his efforts to get off the addictive pain medications.

But it was the Thai massage that proved the most valuable at working with the severely damaged joints to assure good blood flow to the healthy ligaments, muscles and tendons surrounding the joints. Knowing that Wes needed a double hip replacement meant that his joint range of motion was drastically limited.  With Wes, I focused on breaking up knots in the muscle tissue surrounding both hips. A typical Thai massage session includes using big stretches to move the hip through flexion, extension, and internal and external rotation. Together we worked slowly, softening the muscle tissue using Thai warm herbal compresses to reduce any pain from the bodywork.  The traditional herbs used in the compresses all have anti-inflammatory properties and the moist heat from the herbs helps relax the tight tendons, ligaments and muscles and calm the client.

The results of our work together were great. Wes recovered, fully, from both surgeries and received highest compliments from his surgeon on the speed of recovery!
