Chinese herbs, in the popular press, are represented two ways: 1.) they kill and 2.) they cure.

So, which is it?

Does it depend on whether you are about to die of, say, pancreatic cancer?  Or, how about if your RA is so painfully debilitating that you’ll take even new prescription medication like the one that killed 4 people before it even hit the market?

Or, maybe it depends on what the press needs to report.  Before it recently surfaced, to the sound of trumpets, Thunder God Vine had been reported for RA, and for cancer treatment, for at least ten years and has now surfaced each year for several years, as the “newest naturally-derived cancer fighting miracle.”

2002: Thunder God Vine extraction shows promise for RA. It is unique, because it slows down the overactive immune system, reduces inflammation by turning off inflammatory genes such as tumor necrosis factor alpha, and reduces the activity of B and T cells.

2012: A drug made from a plant known as “thunder god vine,” or lei gong teng, that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine, wiped out pancreatic tumors in mice, researchers said, and may soon be tested in humans

2013:“While it is great news that this study is bringing the beneficial effects of inexpensive and near-free plant compounds to light, the bad news is that it’s a…drug that will seek FDA approval and ultimately be patented, nutritionally ruined, and sold for exorbitant amounts of cash. 

2014:  The results were astounding: of the 207 trial participants, 55% of those who took thunder god vine extract experienced at least a 50% improvement in the tender and swollen joints, pain, and disability associated with RA. A third group, who took a combination of thunder god vine and methotrexate, had the best results: 77% showed a reduction of symptoms.
